Who is responsible

Stefano Carlo Lambertenghi runs this personal website. For any question about your data, write to me by email.

Hosting

The site is served by GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). Like any web server, GitHub receives your IP address and request details when you open a page and logs visitors' IP addresses for security purposes. I have no access to these logs. See the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

What is stored in your browser

The site sets no cookies. Only the garage game (Just for fun) keeps a few things in your browser's local storage, so a returning driver has something to beat:

  • your best lap or run time, per track and vehicle;
  • the replay of that lap, used for the ghost car;
  • up to three streets you loaded from the map, so they open again without a new request;
  • whether you agreed to load maps from OpenStreetMap (see below).

None of it contains anything about you, and none of it is ever sent anywhere: it stays on your device. It is only written when you use the garage. You can delete it with the Clear saved data button in the garage, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Outside services, and when they are contacted

Some features need data from other services. When your browser contacts them, they receive your IP address, your browser's standard request details (such as its user agent and the referring page), and the request itself. None of them are contacted on page load without a reason listed here.

OpenStreetMap map tiles

Used by the journey map on the About page and the street picker in the garage. They load only after you choose to show a map; that choice is remembered in your browser and covers both maps. The tiles come from the OpenStreetMap Foundation's servers, which receive the map area you look at. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.

Overpass API

The garage's "Any street" track is built from OpenStreetMap data, which the site cannot hold for the whole world. When you press Load this route, your browser asks the public Overpass API at overpass-api.de for the streets and buildings around the two points you picked. It receives that area's coordinates and your IP address. Without it, that one track cannot work; every other part of the site works without it.

YouTube

Talk recordings on the Demos and Teaching pages are embedded from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). The player loads as you scroll near it, and from then on Google receives your IP address and request details. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Your choices and rights

You can refuse the maps: the rest of the site, including every other garage track, works without them. To withdraw a map choice you made, use Clear saved data in the garage or clear this site's data in your browser. Because I do not collect or keep personal data myself, requests about data held by GitHub, the OpenStreetMap Foundation, the Overpass API or Google go to those providers. Under the GDPR you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
